An outreach to India began in 1989 when Pastor Bob Caldwell (Calvary Chapel Boise) met L. Gunasekaran in Boise. After intense spiritual discipleship, Guna returned to Bangalore to begin taking the Word of God into poverty stricken slums.
Since then God has opened tremendous doors to some of the most unreached people on earth. With amazing, sacrifice and persecution, a growing team of native pastors and evangelists are planting churches in slums and villages in India.
The following programs are taking place in India:
Student/Evangelist Program - This two-year program includes are comprehensive sutdy of the Bible and instruction in discipling new believers. Each graduate then becomes an evangelist working with a pastor in an unreached area. The goal is to eventually open a Children's Center and plant a church.
Children's & Education Centers These centers invite children to learn Bible stories, songs, traditional Indian poetry and dance, as well as basic skills in reading, writing and hygiene.
Home of Hope Orphanages - There are currently eight orphanages, three of which serve the needs of children suffering with HIV/AIDs. Through the support of sponsors, these children are placed in loving atmosphere, complete with nutritious meals, medicines, education and biblical instruction.
HIV/AIDs Care Facility - Our Heaven's Gate Staff works with local medical professionals and the government to provide medicine, nutition, housing and education for parents and their children.
"Calvary Chapel Rome is now located in Tor Bella Monaca, one of Rome's most troulbed neighborhoods and we have planted another work in Frascati, 20km from Rome. God has faithfully provided for these two churches. Many promising doors are opening up in these two communities. In Tor Bella Monaca, urban social issues including crime, drug and domestic abuse, anxiety and depression are rampant. With only an empty shell of religion available, this community and Italy as a whole have turned to humanistic solutions and atheistic beliefs. Our desire is that the Holy Spirit would come and powerfully reveal the one true and living God who can radically change lives. As part of this effort, our non-profit association, The Vine, has partnered with the local municipality to help poor famillies with social assistance. We are priveleged to minister God's love by providing food, diapers, clothing and other basic items as well as take on special community projects. While we help with pressing practical needs, we are confident that God will more importantly meet the psirit need: a personal, saving relationship with Jesus Christ."
